Federal vs. State Tax Matters

Enrolled Agents like J.R. Coleman may represent you on Federal Tax Matters in all 50 states. EAs are Federal Tax Experts. Federal law is uniform but it does recognize local law in areas such as community property. However each State has different laws and procedures for local income tax, sales, franchise and use taxes. Every state except Oregon allows for EAs to represent taxpayers on state tax matters.   Please feel free to consult with this office on a state tax issue. If we cannot help you, we will assist you with a referral.

What J.R. Coleman, E.A. and his affiliated organization is not!

J.R. solves complicated Federal Tax matters every day and has done many penalty abatements and tax settlements with IRS. He is a licensed professional. He is not part of a “tax resolution” or “debt settlement” company that uses commission salespeople and makes crazy promises.

Although not the rule in most of the country, in the State of Texas, only a CPA can hold themselves out to the public as an “accountant.” J.R. Coleman is not engaged in the practice of accounting. He is enrolled to practice before IRS and Appeals and is an Accredited Tax Advisor as well as an E.A. While he may represent clients as an E.A. under a Power-of-Attorney in civil IRS matters, he is not engaged in the practice of law.
